Cost Explorer
This section presents a Cost Explorer overview, one of the key features accomplished in the DigiUsher for providing a transparent summary of organization’s cloud spendings. It is available for any registered DigiUsher account and can be accessed via the home page by clicking the self-titled menu item of the left sidebar. The Cost Explorer panel consists of the three base elements providing:
- a quick-summary display for Total expenses on the top left;
- a time frame input section on the top right with three instant presets for the Last month, This month and the Last 7 days;
- and a Daily expenses chart for the selected period.
These values are applicable to the entire organization and represent total amounts. User role management may be required to grant partial access to this information.
Shortcut buttons, namely Source, Pools and Owner, on the bottom are equivalent to the same menu items listed in the left sidebar. The corresponding cost breakdowns are meant to provide detailed information depending on the selected factor.
Thus, the Source section will generate reports according to all attached data sources, which will be listed in the bottom as Period Expenses. In this example, there is only a data source named “AWS HQ”, which is responsible for 100% of the expenses. Clicking its name will redirect to this data source’s cost breakdown as per one of the four spending patterns. Expenses for each data source can be viewed on basis of Service, Region, Pool and Owner. The chart and diagram reflect the contribution of each cloud service by using an associated colour.
Region and Service cost breakdowns are unique subsections within a data source. Selecting Pool or Owner subsections, however, enables navigating further into the Cost Explorer by clicking the desired names in the Period expenses table. This resembles using the sidebar menu items as it allows browsing expenses for individual employees and Pools. These interlinks provide fluent access to any element within an organization, breaking down all relevant costs due to their origin. So every Pool report can be viewed, for example, as expenses of each team member. And every Owner section can present information on the amounts spent as per each Pool group that an employee has access to.
Starting and closing dates can be specified differently for every section to generate an immediate report. Select the desired period in the top right corner and click Apply.
Raw Expenses
An overview of daily expenses has been introduced to enable user access to raw billing data from the Source. Clicking on any bar of the “Daily expenses” graph will redirect the user to a new view containing a comprehensive layout for individual resources and related expenses.
Detailed Resource Expenses
To get an elaborate overview of each particular item that has been discovered in your source, click “Resources” in the left navigation bar. Note that all verified data sources will be listed on this page and can be browsed through by clicking on their corresponding logos. Selecting any resource by clicking on its name will redirect to a dedicated page that contains all the details and expenses associated with it. The following example provides an overview for a virtual machine in AWS cloud. An exhaustive overview generated on the basis of raw billing data is available at the Expenses tab. Additionally, resources listed in DigiUsher are linked by the “Check in Cloud Console” button to their original view in the cloud, which helps double-checking and getting reference data directly from the source.
